How It Works

Learn about our data sources, methodology, and reliability framework

Our Mission

BBMP Work Tracker brings transparency and accountability to Bangalore's municipal spending by making BBMP work orders, contractor performance, and ward-level expenditure visible, searchable, and verifiable by every citizen.

Data Sources

BBMP Work Orders

Source: OpenCity

Official BBMP work order data (2013-2024) including ward numbers, descriptions, contractors, dates, and sanctioned amounts. Updated quarterly.

Reliability: 7/10

Satellite Imagery

Source: Sentinel-2 (European Space Agency via Google Earth Engine)

10m resolution satellite imagery updated every 5 days. Used to verify outdoor infrastructure work (roads, parks) through before/after comparison.

Reliability: 8/10 for outdoor work

Google Street View

Source: Google Maps Street View API

Ground-level imagery for road work verification. Coverage varies across Bangalore. Images may be 6 months to 2 years old.

Reliability: 7/10 (where available)

Verification Process

Unverified (Default)

Only work order data available. No external verification yet.

Partially Verified

One verification source available (satellite OR street view). Medium confidence.

Verified

Multiple sources confirm work (satellite + street view). High confidence.

Disputed

User reports indicate work incomplete or poor quality despite BBMP record.

Limitations

  • Work order data updated quarterly (not real-time)
  • Underground work (drains, sewage) cannot be satellite-verified
  • Street View imagery may be outdated (6 months to 2 years)
  • Location data inconsistent (~30% of orders lack precise addresses)
  • Completion status often missing from source data

Ward Renumbering

BBMP wards were reorganized in 2022 from 198 to 243 wards. We maintain both old and new ward numbers for continuity. A draft proposal for 368 wards under Greater Bengaluru Authority is pending (as of Oct 2025).

Note: We display both old and new ward numbers where applicable. Historical work orders (pre-2022) use the 198-ward scheme.
